Wonderful One Block Wonders! with Andrea Ames 3 Class Sessions ($180) Have you ever thought “I can’t make an ‘art quilt?’” Well, prepare to be happily wrong! Maxine Rosenthal’s one-block wonders technique enables any advanced-beginner (or more experienced) quilter to create a fabulous, one-of-a-kind quilt. In this class, you’ll learn how to select the right fabric – those gorgeous, large-scale print fabrics we love so much work great – as well as how to cut, design, and sew your very own art quilt. Andrea will guide you through the steps and provide tips and tricks for selecting fabric, pinning, cutting, sewing, designing, and bordering/finishing from her experience creating several of these quilts. She will also bring samples and photos of her one-block wonders. By the end of the class, you will have your quilt top cut out, all of the blocks (half-hexagons) sewed together, the main portion of the top (without borders) designed, a plan for your borders, and depending on your border plan, either an understanding of how the rows are sewed together or two rows of blocks sewed together, requiring only approximately one more day of sewing to complete your top. Prerequisite knowledge: This class is intended for the advanced-beginner quilter. You should be familiar and comfortable with your sewing machine, machine piecing, and rotary cutting. IMPORTANT NOTE: Andrea recommends that you wait to buy your fabric until after the first class - that first class meeting will be all about what fabrics might or might not work well. If you already have several yards of a large-scale print (or more than one) that you'd like to use, bring it with you, and Andrea will give you her opinion about it's suitability for a one-block wonders quilt.
