And we rolled with laughter! And we even got some sewing done, amazingly enough. 🙂
Our first movie of the evening was 1959's Attack of the Giant Leeches. Cheating wife? Check. Redneck hunter/poachers? Check. Incredibly outrageous water-bound creature? Checkaroonie! Complete with really cheesy costume! 🙂
We followed that classic with the 1961 “blockbuster” Creature from the Haunted Sea. We're not sure if it was meant to be quite as funny as we found it. We think it re-purposed the giant leech costume from the first movie into the creature for this one. Director Roger Corman outdid himself on this one. I'd say more but you really have to see it to believe it.
After laughing ourselves silly, we finished up with the inestimable Steve McQueen in the 1958 hit The Blob. Always remember: Never poke the space thing with a stick. Very bad idea. Even if it does look like raspberry jam/jello.
We had such a great time it was decided that Sci-Fi Friday goes on the “repeat often” list. Would love to have you join us next time.
Got a favorite cheesy / campy / schlocky 40s / 50s / 60s Science Fiction movie? Let me know. I'll add to the “what to watch” list.
