What’s On The Quilting Wall: The surprising projects I’m loving in June

What do I work on in the spring? It may actually surprise you.

The projects I chose this season aren’t the ones that you think. Quilt completion takes time, so I am typically working a few months in advance on things.

Sometimes, spring projects are the first projects of the year if you’ve had a slow winter. Sometimes, just like the bears, you need a little hibernation.

No judgement here.

When we start up our sewing projects for the spring, sometimes we just stare at a bunch of stored fabrics and random patterns. You either have no ideas…. Or all of the ideas—all at once.

But once we make our selections, it’s off to the races. And this year, I have been really busy with some super fun projects, as I’m sure you have been too. And if not, then this blog might just give you a million ideas for what to get started on this month.

It’s not florals and sunshine over here.

So, here’s what’s on my wall of quilt projects for spring.

So, what do I work on in the spring? For me, spring is when I start thinking of Halloween. (Okay, I think about Halloween year-round. Sue me!)

This year, spring brings out some Halloween fabrics I'd forgotten I'd ordered (it WAS over 6 months ago), so my brain decided that I needed to figure out something I could make using just those fabrics. And a couple of options for backgrounds. And and and ...

Here are the fabrics I’m working with.

Left stack, top to bottom: Riley Blake Scary Scraps Spooky Spools in Blue, Riley Blake Scary Scraps Spooky Spools in Orange, Riley Blake Scary Scraps Spooky Spools in White, Riley Blake Frank and Friends Ghosts Charcoal (this one glows in the dark!), Riley Blake Frank and Friends Main in Riley Blake Frank and Friends Main, Riley Blake Frank and Friends Main in Gray, Riley Blake Frank and Friends Main in Pink, Frank and Friends Webs in Cloud, Riley Blake Frank and Friends Webs in Green, Riley Blake Frank and Friends Webs in Black, Frank and Friends Halloween Icons in Orange, Frank and Friends Halloween Icons in Cloud, and Frank and Friends Halloween Icons in Black.

Right stack, top to bottom: random pieces from my stash - I don't remember (or have access to them) at the moment

They’re definitely spooky, colorful and great for spring if you’re a Halloween enthusiast like me.

No ideas came to mind (haven’t we all been there), so I started searching through some of my books and patterns to see if something would jump out and yell, "ME! ME!" Nothing really did, but I did find some viable options.

This is as far as I've gotten so far ... I mean, it's only been 3-4 weeks.

But Happy Halloween, everyone!

There are a lot of great projects you can choose right now as the weather gets nicer.

While Halloween might be my vibe, if you’re digging some florals or living up the beachy vibes, don’t let me stop you.

If you’re rotating your fabrics and looking for something to get you motivated with on the last few beautiful spring afternoons, check out a few of our favorites. Or if you have a few projects you’ve been loving, feel free to share them with us (we are always looking for more great quilt projects).

And let me just say… I am sorry (not sorry) if you suddenly have a million ideas that you need to start right now. Cheers to a busy June.
